When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

The condition of having an extra tooth which you describe is calleda MESIODENS. It can be either an extra baby tooth or an extra permanent tooth. Location of the mediodens to the developing permanent teeth effects the decision as to the necessity and timing of removal of the mesiodens (extra tooth). It is usually best to delay extraction as long as possible, to minimize the possiblity of harming the neighboring permanent teeth which are forming.

Treatment can be provided by a general dentist or a specialist. The specialist can be either a Pediatric Dentist or an Oral Surgeon.

Mesodens is a supernumerary tooth developed between the upper two front teeth. It needs to be removed by an oral surgeon, and is typically not a difficult proceedure. How old is your child? Have the upper two front teeth errupted yet? If your child is 7 yeard old or older, he should be seen by an oral surgeon or pediatric dentist to evaluate this soon, because the position of the mesodens can affect erruption and alignment of the permanent teeth.
